POST-PRODUCTION – REFLECTION

21st Century Skills

Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving)

Throughout this production project, I was able to put forward various ideas and solve issues we encountered along the course of production. For example, we were unable to decide what to use for glue during production. I had the idea to use hand sanitizer as it is sort of goopy-like and could be cleaned up easily. I also put forward the idea of filming in the I-Hall as it was the longest hallways and gave us the most space to set the scene of walking to the bus. Lastly, I gave out sound designer an idea on using jaws music to show the sense of “danger” leading up to getting stuck in the glue.

Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)

Throughout this production process, I remained open to ideas and compromised and problem-solved on issues that might have arisen during the project. Initially, we were going to do shots cutting to the clock to show that the person stuck in glue was running out of time. However, we were unable to get shots of the clock after school and we all had to agree to cut those shots out of the film and build the tension in another way. We were also going to do a close-up of the actor walking, however, since they were wearing different shoes, we all decided to cut that out of the film as well as it would disrupt the continuity of the shot. In addition, we all helped each other out in certain roles. We all gave ideas for sound in what notes or chords they could play to build tension and we all put in ideas for the shot angles and light placement to help create focus on certain areas throughout the film.

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

To help achieve my goal during this project I researched techniques and ideas. To achieve my goal of rhythm in editing I watched videos, researched, and ask questions on what that might look like which ultimately helped me reach my goal. I also researched those known for their work in my role to give me an idea of different editing styles and techniques. We also used google drive to organize our shots and sounds and Trello board with the scrum system to help keep us on track to reach the deadline and stay organized with tasks we still needed to complete. Lastly, we used WeVideo to edit our film.

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

During this production process, I have developed the skills of collaboration and decision-making as I had to work with my team on developing ideas and discarding things that didn’t end up working. I also developed the skill of working under a deadline. We had a deadline for the film meaning we had to work at a certain pace that would allow us to finish on time. It also helped build skills needed for presentations and providing evidence as proof of what I accomplished. These all can be useful in many areas of life such as school, a future job, or even my sport.

Reactions to the Final Version

“I thought you did really good and I liked how you edited along with the sounds in the film”- Merja

“The evidence you used to show your rhythm in editing worked really well because you can see the beats of the song right there in the timeline through the cuts which was really clever” -Scott

This shows that I achieved my goal of editing to a rhythm.

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

Simple- our idea was simple and easy to understand allowing the viewer to easily understand what was happening in the story.

Unexpected- the climax of our film was unexpected with the actor getting their foot stuck in the glue.

Concrete- our film was memorable as there was hints of humor throughout the story and there was a lot of built-up tension leading to the climax.

Emotional- our film showed the actor is distress and overwhelmed about being stuck in the glue, we built tension throughout the film using sounds, edit cuts, and through the actor

What I Learned and Problems I Solved

Some problems that arose during production were not knowing what to use for glue, removing cuts due to a change in footwear disrupting continuity, and a short period to produce the film due to the deadline. I learned about editing to a rhythym as that was new to me and I didn’t know that was a technique that was often used in film editing.
